In fear of harsh winter, people stocked up very timely, Ziedonis Vilcins, forest owner from Skujene, told the newspaper Latvijas Avize.
SIA Krauzers Chairman Andis Araks acknowledges that all dry firewood was bought up back in autumn and they are stocking up barns once again. “The minimum price we cannot afford to fall below is 16 LLV/m3. If we sell cheaper, we will not be able to pay the forest owner.”
He adds that the overall demand for wood is growing in rural areas, as an increasing number of municipalities switch to renewable resources.
According to the Forest Information Centre, in the first half of 2010, the average price of wood fuel accounted for 12.05 – 13.94 LVL/m3, hitting 16.20 – 16.68 LVL/m3 in the second half of the year. The average price for firewood fell between 16.45 and 16.99 LVL/m3 in 2011.
